About Beijing Dance Academy
Beijing Dance Academy (BDA) was founded in 1954, and situated just north of Zizhu (Purple Bamboo) Park in the Haidian District of Beijing. It is the only dance institution of higher education in China. It is also one of the largest dance schools in the world noted for its complete specialty establishment. BDA has 561 full-time faculty and staff members working with about 2000 full-time college students, more than 1200 students from the affiliated secondary school and more than 600 adult students from School of Continuing Education.
There are 11 departments of BDA can accept international students, include the Department of Chinese Classical Dance, the Department of Chinese Ethnic and Folk Dance, the Ballet Department, the Department of Choreography, the Education and Research Center for Modern Dance, the Department of Dance Studies, the Department of Social Dance, the Department of Musical theatre, the Department of Art Communication, the Graduate Faculty, and the School of Continuing Education. Since 1955 to date, it has provided postgraduate, undergraduate education and professional training for students from more than twenty countries on five continents.
In recent years, BDA has furthered international exchanges in depth and breadth. It has successfully held the Beijing Forum on International Dance Education and Development, four Beijing International Ballet Invitational Competitions for Dance Schools and the “Dance Aesthetics and Dance Education Forum” of The 18th International Congress of Aesthetics. The Academy also signed inter-school cooperation agreements with over 20 international education institutions, including the Goldsmiths, University of London (the United Kingdom), State University of New York Purchase College (the United States), University of Cincinnati (the United States) and National Dance Academy of Rome (Italy). In 2012, BDA was officially approved by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) to work with Goldsmiths, University of London to launch the first Dance Confucius Institute in the world- Goldsmiths Confucius Institute for Dance and Performance.
The Academy has a beautiful campus and various facilities, including 80 professional dance studios, the theaters with full performance function and a library with the most complete books and audio/video materials on dance in China. The Foreign Students Building offers standard rooms for accommodation with air conditioner, telephone, TV set, desk, chairs, and private bath room. Hot water is available 24 hours. There is a clinic with physical therapy devices on campus.
The international students who are studying full-time in the Academy for Bachelor’s or Master’s degree can apply “Beijing Municipal Government Scholarship”.
